MailBigFile FAQ

What is the difference between "normal" transfer and "secure" transfer?

In normal mode data is transferred to our server unencrypted. This means, potentially, that someone could evesdrop on the data you are sending.

In secure mode, the data is encrypted, so even if it was intercepted by a third party, it cannot be read. This is confirmed by the presence of a padlock symbol on your web browser. It's the same method that's used for protecting your credit card details on shopping sites.

If the big file you want to transfer contains sensitive information, we recommend you use the secure mode.

When a file is uploaded in secure mode, the download will also be secure.

This option is only available on the Pro and Business Accounts.

What is GBP or £ ?

GBP = Great British Pounds

This is the currency used in the United Kingdom

£10 is approx $20 or €13, although this is dependant on the exchange rate at the time of the transaction.

Can I delete a file?

Pro Account users can delete a file once it has been retrieved by the recipient.

Look out for the link in the notification email. Just click the link, and the file will be permanently removed.

Why has my file expired?

Files will expire for one of the following reasons:

1. The file has already been downloaded more than the maximum allowed times

2. The file is over a 3 days old, or 14 days on the Pro and Business Accounts.

How can I change my Pro Account email address?

Please email us with the current and new email address, and we'll do the rest.

Where Can I Get A Pro Account Invoice?

The email confirmation which gets sent out once you've successfully paid serves as an electronic invoice.

The amount is displayed in GBP and not US Dollars.

Unfortunately, due to the vast volume of people signing up, and to help the environment - we are unable to provide a paper copy.

While a file is being uploaded, can I leave the site or do I have to keep the page open until uploading is complete?

Yes you have to leave your web brower window open until uploading is complete. A message will tell you when this is finished.

You can always open another window / tab in your web browser whilst your file is uploading and view another web site in the meantime.

Does MailBigFile work with Apple Macs and Linux?

Yes.

Firefox , Safari , Opera and Konqueror browsers are all known to work correctly.

MailBigFile does not need any external plugins (e.g. flash / java) to function.

It appears the recepient has not received and email notification, what can I do?

If the email notification is not being received by the recipient, there are some things to check:

Have the recipient check their spam/junk folder.

Sometimes, the notification e-mail will end up in the spam or junk folder.

Have the recipient add the sending email address to their address book.

If you have not entered your own email address in the From: field, then this address will be noreply@www.mailbigfile.com

Can I send a file to more than one address?

Yes, you can send to multiple e-mail addresses if you have a Pro or Business Account.

Sometimes, files take longer to upload - is this normal?

It is usual for the servers load to fluctuate, which means that during very busy periods, files will unfortunately take slightly longer than usual to upload.

How do I upload a folder containing multiple files?

Anyone who has tried to upload a whole folder will have noticed it is not directly possible due to limitations with current web browsers.

The way to get around this is to archive/compress (ZIP) the folder.
